Matching

Discovery by distance

Set your ZIP and radius during onboarding. Discovery prioritizes people near you in Greater Los Angeles. Like, pass, and match when both people like each other.

Matching

Likes, Super Likes, and boosts

Daily likes depend on your plan. Super Likes, Spotlight, and Profile Boost (included or as packs) help you stand out. Billing hides packs your membership already includes.

Frequently asked questions (5)

Your ZIP and radius set a local discovery window across Greater Los Angeles. Friend in LA is designed so you mainly meet people who are actually nearby, not profiles from another state.

Results refresh as people update availability, privacy, and location settings. Someone can leave your window if they tighten privacy, change ZIP, or move outside your radius.

You can tighten or widen radius in profile/location settings when the product allows. Extremely wide settings still stay within how we define the service area — this is not a national dating feed.

  • ZIP + radius = who shows up in nearby discovery.
  • Adjust location settings when you move neighborhoods or cities.
  • Outside your window generally will not appear in nearby discovery.

Like someone you want to meet; pass on profiles that are not a fit. A match happens when both people like each other. Until then, there is usually no open DM thread.

Daily like limits depend on your plan. Free accounts get a smaller daily budget; Plus and Premium raise limits and may include tools that help you stand out. Super Likes and boosts (purchased or included) call extra attention to your profile when those products are available.

Matches can be unmatched later if the conversation is not working. If someone violates guidelines, report them in addition to unmatching so moderation can review.

  • Mutual like = match; then messaging can open.
  • Like limits and extras follow your plan — see Membership.
  • Manage packs and subscriptions in Billing.

Yes. Unmatching ends the match thread for both people. The conversation closes and you should not expect further DMs from that match unless you match again later under product rules.

Blocking goes further: it stops further interaction in either direction, including likes and profile views where the product enforces the block. Use block when you do not want any more contact.

If the other person harassed you, scammed you, or broke guidelines, report them as well. Unmatch alone does not create a moderation case.

  • Unmatch: ends that match thread for both sides.
  • Block: stops further interaction both ways.
  • Guideline violations: also use Report.

Approved Elite members can appear in Elite-only discovery and use Elite Lounge and Elite events. That layer is for the peer circle after admin approval and an active Elite subscription — not for everyone on Plus or Premium.

Payment alone never grants Elite. The $499 setup fee starts review; approval and then a monthly or yearly Elite subscription activate entitlements. Denied applications stay outside Elite discovery.

Regular discovery still exists for the broader community. Elite-only surfaces are an additional, gated experience for members who qualify.

  • Elite-only discovery, lounge, and events require approved Elite + active subscription.
  • Paying the setup fee is not automatic approval.
  • Learn more at Elite info; apply at /elite after sign-in.

Yes. During onboarding and later in profile settings you choose who you want to see and who can see you, within the options the product supports. Those controls shape discovery so you are not flooded with profiles outside your intent.

Preferences are not a license to harass. Be respectful in prompts and messages. Hate or harassment based on identity violates the Community Guidelines and can lead to suspension or removal.

If discovery feels wrong after a move or a change in what you want, revisit preference and location settings before opening a support ticket — most fixes are self-serve there.

  • Set “who I want to meet” in onboarding and profile settings.
  • Visibility controls also limit who can see you, where offered.
  • Respectful use required — see Community Guidelines.
