Safety at Friend in LA
Meeting new people is rewarding and requires judgment. We combine product tools, verification, and clear guidelines — but you remain the best judge of your comfort offline.
First-date and first-meetup safety
Keep early plans simple and public: coffee shops, museum lobbies, busy parks, or daytime walks. Tell a friend where you are going, share the person's first name and profile link if you are comfortable, and arrange your own transportation so you can leave independently.
Do not feel obligated to stay if conversation feels off. Politely ending a meet-up early is always acceptable. Avoid sharing home addresses, workplace details, or financial information on a first plan.
Scam prevention
Be wary of members who quickly push off-platform communication, request money or gift cards, promote investment schemes, or claim emergencies that require wire transfers. Friend in LA will never ask for your password or payment outside official billing flows.
- Never send money to someone you have not met repeatedly in safe settings.
- Verify unusual stories independently before acting.
- Report profiles that solicit payments, external links to phishing sites, or multi-level marketing pitches.
Blocking and reporting
Block stops further messages, likes, and profile views between you and the other member in either direction. Report sends the profile or conversation to our moderation queue with category tags you choose — harassment, spam, impersonation, underage concern, and others.
Reports are reviewed by trained staff. We may warn, suspend, or remove accounts based on evidence and history. False or retaliatory reports can also violate guidelines.
Video call safety
In-app video calls are optional and require acceptance by both parties. Choose a neutral background, avoid displaying sensitive documents on camera, and end the call if you receive pressure to move to unmonitored platforms or share explicit content.
Calls are not recorded by default. Screenshots or recordings made by either participant without consent may violate California law and our Community Guidelines.
Event safety
Member and Elite events include staff or designated hosts, RSVP lists, and conduct rules. Follow venue policies on alcohol, photography, and harassment. If another attendee makes you uncomfortable, notify host staff immediately — do not wait until after the event.
Private venue addresses are shared only with confirmed attendees. Do not post them on social media.
Emergency guidance
If you are in immediate danger, call 911 (or your local emergency number) first. Friend in LA support is not an emergency service and cannot dispatch help to your location.
For non-emergency safety concerns after the fact — stalking, threats, assault — contact local law enforcement and then notify us via support with any relevant report numbers so we can take account action where appropriate.
This page offers general safety information, not medical, legal, or mental health advice. Consult qualified professionals for those needs.
Verification limitations
Phone Verified, Admin Identity Verified, and Elite Member badges describe specific checks Friend in LA performed — they do not guarantee honesty, relationship compatibility, or absence of harmful behavior offline. Elite means peer-circle qualification, not a background check.
Bad actors can misrepresent themselves despite verification. Use the same caution you would on any platform, and rely on reporting tools when something feels wrong.

Safety FAQ
Video call requests are available as a product feature across membership tiers, subject to acceptance by both people and any cooldowns the product enforces. Having the button does not force the other person to accept.
Either person can decline. Never pressure someone onto a call, demand they turn cameras on for sexual content, or insist they move immediately to an external app. That behavior can violate guidelines.
If calls feel unsafe or harassing, end them, block, and report. For general offline meetup advice after a call, see Safety.
Live video calls are for real-time conversation. Do not assume platform recording is available or enabled. If we ever offer an explicit record feature, it will be labeled in the product — until then, treat calls as live-only.
Recording or screenshotting someone without consent may violate California law and our guidelines. Never share intimate media under pressure, and never circulate private call content.
If you believe you were recorded or shared without consent, preserve what you can safely keep, then report in-app and contact support. For immediate danger, call 911 first.
Use a neutral background. Avoid showing IDs, mail, door numbers, or other home details on camera. A plain wall or blurred background is enough for a first call.
You can end the call anytime if you feel pressured, catfished, or uncomfortable. You do not owe a full conversation. Afterward, block and report if needed.
Video is optional — never a requirement for dating on Friend in LA. Prefer public first meets in Greater Los Angeles when you decide to meet offline, and tell a friend your plans.
- Neutral background; hide address and ID details.
- End the call if anything feels wrong — no explanation required.
- More guidance: Safety; report threats after the call.
Use Profile → Privacy to manage visibility, distance sharing, and related controls the product offers. Those settings shape who can find you in discovery and how much location context others see.
Blocking someone cuts interaction both ways where enforced. You can also adjust preferences for who you want to meet so fewer wrong-fit profiles see or engage with you.
Policy-level details — what we collect, why, and retention — live in the Privacy policy. California residents have additional request rights through the CCPA request center.
- Day-to-day controls: Profile → Privacy.
- Full policy: Privacy policy.
- California requests: CCPA request center.
California residents can start a CCPA request from the CCPA request center. That flow is built for access, deletion, and related rights where California law applies.
Other members can contact support for privacy questions or data requests. We may ask you to verify identity before releasing account information.
We respond within the timelines required by applicable law. Complex cases (many linked records, legal holds) can take the full allowed window — use the tracking or ticket channel so nothing is lost in email threads.
- CA residents: /privacy/ccpa.
- Others: privacy questions via support.
- Policy background: Privacy policy.
People within discovery rules and your preference settings can see profiles you make available. If you tighten who can see you or who you want to meet, fewer members will find your profile in nearby discovery.
Blocking cuts interaction both ways. Event hosts and confirmed attendees may see limited RSVP information for that event — enough to run the door list, not a public dump of your full profile.
Staff may access account data for safety, support, and legal compliance. That access is for operations, not for browsing profiles socially.
- Discovery + preferences control everyday visibility.
- Blocks stop further interaction; events may show limited RSVP info.

See our Privacy policy and CCPA disclosures for how we handle “sale” and “share” under California law. Those documents define the terms in the legal sense, which can differ from everyday language.
If California rights apply to you, use the request center to exercise opt-out or related choices. Do not rely on rumors from other apps — use the disclosures for Friend in LA specifically.
For questions about a specific vendor, cookie banner, or marketing partner, open a support ticket after you have read the policy section that applies.
- Read Privacy policy for sale/share disclosures.
- Submit applicable requests at /privacy/ccpa.
- Account-specific questions: support.
Meet in public in Greater Los Angeles — a busy café, daytime patio, or well-lit venue with staff around. Tell a friend who you are meeting, where, and when you expect to check in.
Arrange your own travel. Do not get into a stranger’s car on a first meet, and do not invite someone straight to your home. Leave if anything feels wrong; you do not owe a full date.
Keep early chats in the app when you can so report/block tools stay available. If plans move to text, still trust your instincts the same way.
- Public place, own transportation, friend knows the plan.
- Leave early if you feel unsafe — no explanation required.
- Use in-app block/report; more tips: Safety. Emergencies: 911.
