California residents can use this page to exercise privacy rights under the CCPA/CPRA — including access/export, deletion, correction, and opt-out of sale/share where applicable.

1. Your California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) may provide rights to:

  • Know / access — categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected about you
  • Delete — request deletion of personal information, subject to legal exceptions
  • Correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of sale or sharing — if we sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by law
  • Limit use of sensitive personal information — to purposes permitted by the CPRA
  • Non-discrimination — we will not deny goods/services or discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights, except as permitted by law

Friend in LA does not sell personal information for money. If we engage in “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising, you may opt out using cookie preferences, Global Privacy Control, or the options on this page. Full details are in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Notice.

2. Categories of information (summary)

Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect identifiers, account and profile data, approximate location (ZIP-derived), communications, verification/Elite application materials, commercial/billing metadata, device/usage data, and limited inferences — as described in the Privacy Policy. Sensitive information may include government ID imagery used for verification and login credentials (stored as hashes/tokens).

3. How to submit a request

Signed-in California residents can submit export (right to know) or deletion requests using the form below. We verify identity through your authenticated Friend in LA session.

Guests / authorized agents should use support with subject “CCPA Agent Request” and provide documentation described in Section 5.

Opt out of sharing (if applicable)

4. What happens after you submit

  1. We confirm receipt and verify your identity.
  2. We process the request or explain why an exception applies (for example fraud prevention, legal retention, completing a transaction, or free speech/safety exceptions recognized by law).
  3. For exports, we provide personal information in a portable format when feasible.
  4. For deletions, we delete or anonymize personal information we are not required to keep, and we notify service providers as required.

Deleting your account/data may end access to matches, messages, and paid entitlements. Cancel subscriptions in Manage billing if you want to stop renewals.

5. Authorized agents

You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request. Agents must provide:

  • Proof of authorization signed by you (or power of attorney as applicable)
  • Sufficient information for us to verify your identity
  • Agent contact details

Email support with subject “CCPA Agent Request” and attach documentation. We may still require you to verify identity directly.

6. Response timing

We aim to respond within 45 days of receiving a verifiable consumer request. Where reasonably necessary, we may extend by an additional 45 days and will explain why. If we deny a request in whole or in part, we will explain the basis and how to appeal where applicable.

7. Global Privacy Control

We honor Global Privacy Control (Sec-GPC: 1) as an opt-out of sale/share and nonessential analytics, consistent with our Cookie Notice. You can also set preferences manually on the Cookie Notice page.

8. Metrics and recordkeeping

We maintain records of privacy requests as required to demonstrate compliance and improve our privacy operations. Metrics may be published if/when legally required.

9. Shine the Light

California Civil Code §1798.83 requests regarding disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing may be sent via support with subject “Shine the Light.”

10. Account self-service (often faster)

Many controls do not require a formal CCPA request:

  • Edit profile and privacy settings in your account
  • Block/report members
  • Update email/SMS marketing preferences
  • Cancel subscriptions in Manage billing
  • Adjust cookie preferences

11. Appeals

If you disagree with our decision on a privacy request, reply to the decision message or contact support with subject “CCPA Appeal” within a reasonable time and explain why you believe the decision was incorrect. We will review and respond in accordance with applicable law.
